How to Volunteer at Fairmount Park

September 7, 2015

It’s time to get your volunteer status updated. The office is fully staffed next week and will be happy to accept all your paperwork so that we can get you on the approved volunteer list.

We will not be accepting volunteer paperwork the week of September 8th-12th as that is our busiest week of the year. I would ask that you do print all forms, complete them at home, and then come to the school with everything ready to go. We will need to check your Washington State identification and then process the background check. We will have hard copies here for those of you without access to a printer. (We must check your valid ID in person and would like to review all your paperwork with you during your visit. This helps to ensure everything is recorded accurately.)

  1. Print out the Background Check form. Complete all of it and bring to school. We will check your ID information and do a background check on you. You will only hear back from us if I find a problem with that check. (This is done annually.)
  2. Complete the Volunteer Application Form. (This is done annually.)
  3. Read the Volunteer Handbook online. Complete the form to indicate that you read the document and will comply with all requirements. (This is done annually.)
  4. Complete the Adult Sexual Misconduct Prevention course. Print the certificate that shows you completed the course. (You only have to do this once during your SPS volunteer time. Returning FP volunteers will have that information documented here in our files. If you are coming from another school and completed it there, we should be able to find your completion information in the database. If you have a copy of your completion certificate, bring it in with you.)
  5. Read the school board policy for volunteering. No paperwork required.

All paperwork must be completed in order to volunteer at school in any capacity. I suggest you do it now so that you aren’t scrambling in December when you volunteer for a field trip.

Parent photo badges will be taken on Curriculum Night, September 24th. Permanent picture badges are then issued to all volunteers so that school staff know you have completed your paperwork. 2014-2015 picture badges will expire on October 15th. (We are using different color badges this year to easily identify the 2015-2016 approved volunteers.) If you are new to our school, we will give you temporary volunteer stickers until your official badge is printed.

Please call the office at 252-9300 between the hours of 8-4 if you have any questions.
